We recently caught up with Melanie O’Reilly, Makeup Artist, Lash Technician and Beauty Therapist. Having been crowned South West Wedding Award winner for makeup and beauty services, Melanie has put her name on the map and is now hoping to develop students into professional beauty technicians by setting up her own academy. Our head trainer Donna Bell spoke to Melanie to congratulate her on her achievement and find out about how she became an award winning artist.
Donna: Hi Melanie, congratulations on your award! With all the strings you have added to your bow, how did your career begin?
Melanie: I’m originally from London and when I left school I worked for a large nail brand within their UK training academy. From there I went on to work for big blue chip companies as a software trainer and quality auditor…not very girly or interesting!, but my love for beauty and makeup was always there, so whilst working my normal 9-5 job I was also doing evening classes and part time courses to gain all my beauty qualifications and makeup skills.
Donna: That’s fantastic! I know you trained with The Eyelash Emporium during this time. How did this training prepare you for becoming a professional lash technician?
Melanie: I always knew I’d love lashing as I like things to be perfect and precise. I trained with your original trainers and loved their passion for lashes.
Donna: Do you still use The Eyelash Emporium products or have you switched to another brand over the years?
Melanie: I still use your products including glue, lashes and tweezers. They’re all amazing and I’d never change them for any other brand.
Donna: After many years working as a technician in various areas of beauty, what would you say is your greatest achievement?
Melanie: Definitely winning the South West Wedding Award 2016 for my beauty services!
Donna: So where do you want to go from here?
Melanie: I’m working towards my own training academy this year based in Cornwall, opening in the late summer. I’m in talks with lots of brands who I’ll become an educator for in the South West once I’ve gained my teaching qualification. The South West is sadly a forgotten area with no great training facilities, so I’m taking sole responsibility for bringing big brands to the South West and creating the best training academy south of Bristol! I’m taking on a large warehouse in Cornwall which will become a centre of excellence and I can’t wait!
Donna: Before you go, I wanted to ask what is your favourite look to create with lashes?
Melanie: My favourite look is subtle lashes with a gentle flick.
From all of The Eyelash Emporium team, we congratulate Melanie on her recent award! If you would like to get in touch with her about her upcoming training centre of excellence or are looking for a makeup/lash artist her contact details can be found below:
